Reclaiming the SEAL
Throughout reading this book Ed Sheeran's song Photograph kept playing though my head. After you read this story, you'll understand why.
it's a bittersweet reunion of two former lovers coming together over the suicide of a close friend. As Julie and Gabe come to grips with what they had when they had been together and what and who have driven them apart, they realize that they never truly knew "Butter". It's only after they make a handful of surprise discoveries while going through his things in his apartment that they are able to piece together what must have been going through his mind.
Spoiler Alert- as I try to write reviews without spoilers, this one is nearly impossible. Although I'm not spilling the beans entirely.

Butter suffers from a mental condition and he's had it all of his life, one that his mother suspected but wasn't sure of. He comes between his two best friends, wanting that love from Julie that she only has for his best friend- he comes between them in the worst way possible.
Neither Gabe and Julie would only love one another and now with being able to put the pieces of the puzzle that is Butter's suicide together, they slowly come back together as a couple and open up. Each let's the other know that they still are in love. I know that I've already said it, but the story is bittersweet. We see Lacey from the LNF novels and a fresh start after a training accident gone horribly wrong.

Overcoming Truths

When the person you knew for so long ends up being an armor made to hide from those who can change their life.

If you are a follower of J.M. Madden books you know some stories or aspects she just does not touch on or HAVE NOT touched on. Well this book has hit another level of goosebumps reality. Gabe and Julie story has it's HEA but the journey and the truths reveal in getting there will leave you feeling some type of way.

Reclaiming the SEAL, felt as if it was someone's story. A rehashing on what they experienced with the mix of friendship and love and how even though you know a person, you never really know them. My heart ached for Butter even though I wanted to dislike the role he played it was hard because his struggle was unimaginable and deeper than the eye could see. True friendship forgave but the hurt will always be there for all parties that knew and kept their opinions until the end. This was a great story and just WOWED me with the depth of the psychological impact it punched.

Potential to go somewhere but fell way short.

Let me first say I am a big J M Madden fan, I have loved all her other books. This on though was a big disappointment. It started well if not very depressing and had the opportunity to go somewhere but just didn't really. There were things in the story that just wouldn't happen and the whole thing concluded in a few pages leaving me really unsatisfied. It was all tied up in just too neat of a package. I will still buy this author's full length books but won't be purchasing any novella's unfortunately.

Intro to Rock Art Research

This is a good basic text on the subject of researching rock art. It includes 10 chapters, giving a concise introduction, describing the nature of fieldwork, classification, dating methods, scientific analysis, as well as types of interpretations. These include symbolic and ethnographic interpretation, as well as the recently popular neuropsychological theory. Other chapters focus on conservation and the relationships among archeology, anthropology, and rock art. An appendix includes recording forms for fieldworkers. Readers who want something mystical and magical will not find it here. Serious students of rock art will find an excellent introduction to the field.

The Best Rock Art Introductory Book

Dr. Whitley is one of the top three specialists in rock art research in the world today. His scholarly record of top-notch scholarship spans three continents and includes ground-breaking perceptual advances. He pulled together and edited the 2000 capstone book "The Handbook of Rock Art Research" - the standard by which all other future compilations must be judged.

The problem was that introductory rock art students would find "The Handbook" a bit too intimidating. Little existed for those who want to go beyond being a photographer of rock art and start down the road towards contributing to our scholarly knowledge of these priceless insights into past minds. Instructors from the community college on up teaching the basics of rock art research were left to cobble together a series of articles and picture books, ending up with an unsatisfying set of readings.

This book solves the problem of an individual wanting to explore the scholarly study of rock art. Dr. Whitley explains in clear language the state of the art of research into rock art. This book is perfect for anybody who has wondered, "What can be done with these amazing images of the past". Dr. Whitley provides the reader a concise and readable way to understand that a tremendous amount of research is possible. So this book is for the regular person who has taken the time to stop on a road trip and wonder about past visitors to a site.

The reader will receive a wonderful introduction to rock art, come to grasp the importance of field work in rock art reserach, be introduced to classification methods, dating methods, scientific analysis methods, how to interpret symbolic and enthnographic elements, and even link rock art to how our minds are constructed at a neurophysiological level. Most importantly, the book turns to management and conservation of this cultural resource that we are losing in bits and pieces every day.

Even though this book is written well enough for someone "new" to rock art to understand the field, this book is also a must for professional archaeologists. This is because rock art is a field long overlooked by archaeologists. Archaeologists older than about 30 years were taught in classes that "nothing could be done" with rock art. Dr. Whitley's book indicates that such statements reveal the lack of scholarship of the speaker. For any archaeologist who simultaneously claims to be a scholar and also questions the relevance of rock art for the student of past peoples, Dr. Whitley's book is a must read. Or the general public will quickly come to the opinion that the "professionals" are so stuck in their old ways that they have become the relicts that they study.

So if you love the pictures and want to learn more, or if you are an out-of-date professional and don't want to be caught being the fool, read this book!

Rock Art 101

Whitley does a good job writing an introduction book on rock art. He gives examples from all over the world including California, South Africa, and France. He writes about ethnographic interpretation as well as the neuropsychological approach to rock art and shamanism.

Whitley includes a short glossary at the end of the book and a very helpful list of references. The "list" is almost 30 pages long.

About the only thing wrong with the book is that there are not as many photographs as I had expect for a book on this kind of topic. Whitley could have included more photographs of the rock art he wrote so well about.

I recommend this book to any aspiring rock art researcher (like myself)

One of the Best Counseling Books

This was recommended but not required for my graduate level class. I loved this book. It was a very easy read with tons of excellent examples of dialog and where to take a client issue. My professor did not agree with everything in this book and I saw places where I at my novice stage didn't agree. But it is still an excellent resource and helped me immensely as I began my counseling sessions. My only complaint is that it is expensive for 135 pages.

Dr. M. Cecile Forte does a wonderful job of informing readers that a man-made woman comes from many different backgrounds. The man-made woman then evolves out of the negative or positive male figures that have been in her life and the choices she makes because of them. I appreciated this book because of its helpful information. This book was well researched and detailed, which gave me a better understanding of its meaning. I recommend this book to others.
