Tough Read

The rating is four stars because I really liked the book and I found it filled with murder and miss treatment of the natives. I had to read it for a class. It really opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of the true natives of the Indies. I suggest that others should read it to get this understanding.

A friend in the entertainment business gave me Legal Aspects of the Music Industry as an early Christmas present when I told him I was thinking of handling my cousin's band. There are other books on the "music industry" but this one gives you a step by step run down of how to avoid being ripped off and how to get things done right...from the start. Schulenberg knows his stuff particularly contracts and rights. Even if you are contemplating a career in the music business, get this book, it's worth every penny!

Khurram Murad (1932-96) was formerly Director General of the Islamic Foundation (1978-86). He studied civil engineering at the Universities of Karachi and Minnesota, USA, and worked as a leading consulting engineer at Karachi, Dhaka, Tehran and Riyadh. Actively involved in the Islamic movement since 1948, he was the President, Islamic Jami'at-e-Talabah, Pakistan, and Amir of its Dhaka and Lahore branches.

This is by far my favorite Islamic book, one that I've now read several times and love gifting to other Muslims who may be seeking a deeper connection with their religion. It is exactly what it says it is - a book about spiritual and self-development, and it tells you how to develop yourself and your connection with God in a very easy to understand, almost step-by-step manner. That isn't to say it's elementary, just that the tips it offers aren't too conceptual, and are very easy to implement into daily life.

This book discusses Practical Faith - Incorporating faith and spirituality into every aspect of one's life. I must admit, it is reminiscent of 'The Secret', but far better and more rooted in the true purpose of life. It is unfortunate that the book is not available on Amazon, though it can be easily found in an online Islamic bookstore. Just google the title and author.

Henchmen of Ares is a deeply researched and lavishly illustrated study of Greek warriors and their world from Mycenaean times down to the Persian Wars. Author Josho Brouwers has composed a thorough and invaluable review of the written, pictorial, and archaeological material on the subject. Nearly every page contains either an illustration of the warriors being described, or a map, or a color photograph of objects of archaeological or pictorial importance. Brouwers has done a splendid job marshaling the disparate strands of evidence to produce a coherent portrait of the Greek warrior. Sifting through such voluminous material requires a Hercule Poirot-like attention to detail, which is amply demonstrated in this book.

With astonishing detail, the author takes you from the epic depictions of Bronze Age Greek warriors through the development of the famous hoplite warriors of Ancient Greece. This is a book for the casual reader, who wants to dig into the broad information available on this area of study and wants it's all in one source.

I bought this book for my husband who loved it. He wrote the above review and I posted it because this is one of the few presents I have ever bought him that he was truly excited about getting from me.
