Recently, there are quite a few readers run into the versions of the LEED exams that have many questions on refrigerants (CFC, HCFC, and HFC), the following advice will help you answer these questions correctly:

This is a VERY important document that you need to become familiar with. Many real LEED exam questions (CFC, HCFC, and HFC, etc.) come from this document. You need to download it for free and read it at least 3 times.

Pay special attention to the Table on ODP and GWP on page 3. You do not have to remember the exact value of all ODPs and GWPs, but you do need to know the rough number for various groups of refrigerants."
 
This latest trend regarding refrigerants (CFC, HCFC, and HFC) for LEED Exams has a lot to do with LEED v4 Credit Weighting. EA (including refrigerants) is a big winner in LEED v4, meaning the category  has MORE questions than any other areas for ALL the LEED exams. How are LEED credits allocated and weighted?
Answer: Credits that can contribute to LEED's "Impact Categories" are given more points. These impact categories are weighted through a consensus driven process:
· Global Climate Change (35%)
· Social Equity, Environmental Justice, and Community Quality of Life (5%)
· Individual Human Health and well-being (20%)
· Greener Economy (5%)
· Biodiversity and Ecosystem (10%)
· Water Resources (15%)
· Sustainable and Regenerative Material Resources Cycles (10%)
 
The USGBC uses three association factors to measure and scale credit outcome to a given Impact Category component:
· Relative Efficacy: It measures whether a credit outcome has a positive or negative association with a given Impact Category component, and how strong that association is.
§  No association
§  Low association
§  Medium association
§  High association
§  Negative association
 
· Benefit Duration: How long will the benefits or consequences of the credit outcome last?
§  1-3 Years
§  4-10 Years
§  11-30 Years
§  30+ Years (Building/Community Lifetime)
 
· Controllability of Effect: It indicates which individual is most directly responsible for achieving the expected credit outcome. The more a credit outcome depends on active human effort, the less likely it will be achieved with certainty, and the credit will have fewer pints, vice versa.
 
The USGBC simplifies the weighting process of points into a score card:
· 100 base points for  the base LEED Rating System
· 1 point minimum for each credit
· Whole points and no fractions for LEED points.

Why "LEED GA Mock Exams (LEED v4)" is needed?

First of all, there are many people who passed the LEED GA Exam by reading my book, "LEED Green Associate Exam Guide" ONLY. There is one reader passed the LEED Green Associate Exam by studying my book for three days.

Secondly, people learn in many different ways.  Some people learn better by doing extra mock exams. If you want to be safe and do additional sample tests to find out if you are ready for the real exam, I would suggest "LEED GA Mock Exams (LEED v4)."

We want our practice questions to be harder to make the readers nervous and force them to go back and review the study materials in my book a few more times.

This approach is apparently working. A set of hard mock exam can be very helpful: What does not kill you makes you stronger.

We want your LEED knowledge to peak on the day of the LEED GA Exam, NOT before or after. One way to achieve this goal is to make you nervous and keep the pressure on, and you will be willing to go back and seriously study and keep reviewing the materials in my book. It is a hard fight against human brain's natural tendency to forget things:

"The process of memorization is like filling a cup with a hole at the bottom: You need to fill it faster than the water leaks out at the bottom, and you need to constantly fill it; otherwise, it will quickly be empty.

Once you memorize something, your brain has already started the process of forgetting it. It is natural. That is how we have enough space left in our brain to remember the really important things." ---Quoted from page 5 of "LEED Green Associate Exam Guide."

Our goal is for "LEED Green Associate Exam Guide" to stand alone. In fact, there are readers who passed the LEED GA Exam by reading "LEED Green Associate Exam Guide" ONLY. One reader passed the LEED GA Exam by studying it for three days. If you choose ANY other books (most of them constantly refer you back to the 817-page USGBC reference guide, and do not stand alone at all) or study materials, you need at least 3 weeks to even go through their study materials once, let alone reviewing the materials several times or passing the LEED GA Exam.

To balance your exam prep effort, the sample tests in "LEED GA Mock Exams" are very close to the real exams. They will definitely help you.

I got 193/200 on LEED GA exam by just using this book, I gave my exam after 15 days of prep (2-3 hrs each day). There was no other resource avaiable for me to prepare for LEED GA and I relied solely on this book. The questions in the exam were directly from this book.

Passed the GA After One Weekend of Studying

Helped me pass the LEED GA with only a weekend of studying. Best to use this book as a practice but also look up every term that you don't know. If a question gives 5 options, don't just try to answer the question but also understand what the other 4 options actually are since they might be a term that gets asked in a different question. Most everything you don't know from the book can be found on google so no additional material was required for me.

About the Editor

David K. Wiggins, PhD, is director of the School of Recreation, Health and Tourism at GeorgeMasonUniversity in Manassas, Virginia. Since earning his PhD from the University of Maryland in 1979, Wiggins has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in sport history at KansasStateUniversity and GeorgeMasonUniversity.

Wiggins is an expert on American sport, particularly as it relates to the involvement of black athletes in sport and physical activity. He has written about sport history since 1980 and published 8 books as well as articles in numerous journals, including Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, Journal of Sport History, Canadian Journal of History of Sport, and International Journal of History of Sport. His work has garnered three Research Writing Awards (1983, 1986, and 1999) from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and significantly affected subsequent research studies on African American involvement in sport.

In addition to his memberships in AAHPERD, the AmericanAcademy of Kinesiology and Physical Education, and the North American Society for Sport History, Wiggins has served as president of the AAHPERDHistoryAcademy, editor of the Journal of Sport History, and history section editor for the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. Wiggins is currently the editor of Quest.

In his leisure time, Wiggins enjoys reading, playing golf, and walking. He and his wife, Brenda, reside in Fairfax, Virgina, and have two sons, Jordan and Spencer.

About the Author

Dr Jonathan Wilkinson qualified from the University of Liverpool Medical School in 1999. He completed further training in General Medicine and Accident and Emergency Medicine, and attained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2002. He went on to train in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in Nottingham, and attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2005. During 2006-2007, he was Thoracic Anaesthesia Fellow at the Nottingham University Hospitals. He is currently Consultant in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia at Northampton General Hospital.

Stephen H. Pennefather MRCP FRCA is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. He qualified from Cape Town University and trained in general medicine and anaesthesia in South Africa and the UK. He has wide research interests in cardiothoracic anaesthesia.

Robert A. McCahon MBChB, FRCA is a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Queen's Medical Centre. He qualified from Manchester University and trained in Wales, Australia, and finally Nottingham. His clinical commitments include anaesthesia for trauma, maxillo-facial surgery, and spinal surgery. He has research interests in cardio-respiratory modelling in ARDS and medical education.

Impressive and imaginative debut novel

The Gift of the Phoenix by Donna Cook is an increcibly impressive book that grips you from the very start, where we meet Nashua who is taking part in the ceremony to receive the gift of the phoenix. However, it goes terribly wrong but Nashua manages to salvage something from the ashes. It's not until twelve hundred years later that she is able to pass on these items to three men, strangers to begin with, whose job it now becomes to protect the phoenix and their land from great evil. There is plenty of action in the story, some wonderful characters and magical, atmospheric settings. Donna has created a fascinating realm in this story which, even if you don't consider yourself a fantasty fan, you'll definitely enjoy.

you on your steed, and tears away. Hang on and enjoy
the ride! It is a trip well worth taking.

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful romp by a new author,
and highly recommend it. It is a quick read and well crafted.
I will read it again and look forward to more of her work.

Wonderful, Imaginative Story, A Great Read

The story of three characters brought together not by choice but fate needing to overcome their misgivings and lack of faith in each other as they puzzle together the mysteries of the phoenix and the threat that threatens them all. This book was great it kept me guessing. The characters felt real in their interactions with one another. I was constantly trying to guess where the book would take me next. It was a wonderful journey.

From a broken home, Maher early became addicted to fast cars, and at 17, driving a stolen car, he led police on a wild chase from the Bronx in New York City to the Catskills. For this he got a prison sentence of up to four years. After escape and re-incarceration, he had the good fortune to encounter detective Jim Doherty, who became a second father to him. He then built a career as a confidential informant for various police departments, the FBI and the DEA. His fascination with fast cars continuing, he met at a drag-racing strip the scion of one of Colombia's drug families and for several years was a serious cocaine addict whose habit wrecked his first two marriages and derailed his career as an informant. Eventually he conquered his addiction and now works for a security firm in New Jersey. From all the derring-do here emerges the portrait of a man who never grew up. First serial to Penthouse.

About the Author
Screenwriter/Producer/Author Charles Kipps has won an Emmy, a Peabody, and an Edgar Award. His early career as a journalist, included a stint as Features Editor for Variety.  He is the author of two non-fiction books, Out of Focus and Cop Without A Badge (recently reissued) and the novels Hell's Kitchen Homicide and Crystal Death (coming September 2010).

It was entertaining....

I have no idea about the validity of this book. I assume about 50% of it is probably true and the rest is the bravado of Kevin Maher. Needless to say, it was an interesting and entertaining read. He definitely is very detailed oriented which makes me MORE likely to believe a lot of what he says. However, his recreations of certain conversations are like a mafia wannabe handbook. I also read Danielle Staub's book, and I imagine their reality falls somewhere in the middle of both of their stories - since they are pretty much opposite. I have to give it to Maher though - he definitely has a hightened sense of self!

(WANNABE) Cop w/o a Badge

I got and read this book as a direct result of seeing reference to it on "Housewives of New Jersey". I got "The Naked Truth" by Danielle Staub at the same time (for the same reason). I'm glad I read "Cop" first. I enjoyed his adventures as a 'car guy' and as a police informant, but the book is very self-serving attempting to justify much of his actions. Danielle's book tells his story totally differently. I'd recommend this book, reads fast and is entertaining.

I was very anxious to read this book. It was very fast paced and easy to get through. I picked it up on a lazy Sunday afternoon and couldn't put it down until I finished it. It just held my interest from page one. The only negative thing I would say is the hype about Danielle Staub was way overrated. She is just a very small part of the book and not even the most interesting part. She should get over herself. Kevin Maher proved to be quite an interesting individual for me.!!!!
